At Eagle Transport, calling this region a “northern district” is relative. With our footprint so heavily focused on the southeastern part of the United States, we base all our general directions on our core company locations: the Carolinas, Tennessee, Florida, and Virginia. We have terminals and team members extending beyond these core regions assigned to and managed by the key districts, including Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, and Texas.
As we journey relatively northward by getting to know the locations that comprise our self-titled Northern District, there is a significant amount of company history to unpack when studying our progression from eastern North Carolina to Virginia and beyond.
Richmond, Virginia
In February 1986, Eagle Transport moved into the Richmond, Virginia, market to serve customers like Texaco and TA Truckstop. In the summer of 2001, we left our first terminal location to operate out of our current location on Commerce Road. Today’s team in Richmond consists of more than 40 employees, including some drivers, technicians, and managers who have been with Eagle for more than 20 years!
Chesapeake, Virginia
In 1976, Eagle expanded into Chesapeake, Virginia, hauling fertilizer, propane, and petroleum products. Chesapeake was the third terminal for our company, and its location has helped us reach new parts of Virginia and eastern North Carolina. Today, we have 30 people on the Chesapeake team, with one of our dispatchers celebrating over 20 years and many other team members serving for more than 10 years at Eagle!
Roanoke, Virginia
Eagle entered the Roanoke market in 2004. During our time there, our drivers have hauled petroleum and chemicals. When one of the fuel pipelines supplying the Montvale/Blue Ridge area loading facilities shut down in 2019, Eagle continued focusing on this region by loading out of Starkie, VA, and Roanoke to ensure our customers could serve communities in West Virginia and western Virginia. Our Roanoke team is now 50-strong with drivers and dispatchers who have served Eagle for up to 20 years!
Salisbury, Maryland
Eagle served the petroleum transportation market in Salisbury, Maryland, for three years before moving into a permanent facility in 1989. We now have a team of more than 30 professionals serving our customers in this region. With 15 employees surpassing ten years at Eagle, eight are celebrating over 20 years on the team!
Ashland, Kentucky
This July, Eagle celebrated 20 years in Ashland, Kentucky! When we acquired Wendell Transport in 2004, we knew we would need a presence in Ashland to continue serving the customers we gained in that transition. Our Ashland team has 22 dedicated employees, helping us expand our presence in this growing market!
Beyond our terminal locations, Eagle’s northern district also serves areas in West Virginia and Delaware, in addition to the communities surrounding each terminal.
